Nico’s Update

From the race car to the Swiss army…and onto Macau!

Pretty much as the 2016 DTM season came to an end in October, it was time for myself to join the Swiss army for my compulsory military service. That’s also why, my news are getting to you a bit late, I hope you excuse me.

My 3rd year in DTM ended with a satisfying 9th place finish in the championship. The last few rounds weren’t easy, as often we couldn’t make use of our full potential. Still, two fifth places at the Nürburgring and in Budapest continued my points scoring flow. Only at the big final in Hockenheim, I didn’t score points for the first time in the whole season after getting blamelessly involved into crashes both on Saturday and Sunday…and that after topping both practice sessions was a bit frustrating.

Despite that, 2016 has been a positive and very promising campaign so far for me and I think we can all be proud of what we achieved. Audi won the DTM manufacturers championship and ABT Sportsline became team champions – to have contributed to that is an honor!

We all then thought “that was it”, and I was starting to serve my duties at the Swiss army. It came as a very unexpected & positive surprise, when I got called up by Audi and Phoenix Racing to join them for the official FIA GT World Cup in Macau (Hong Kong) this week. It’s name says it all, we are talking about the most important GT race in the world, which takes place on one of the most challenging tracks in the world and fields the best GT drivers in the world! What a challenge and a chance to learn this amazing circuit.

Thanks for crossing fingers and I send you my best regards.

Yours, Nico
