Onward to Santiago: Increasing the gap

Mahindra Racing heads to Santiago for the first ever Santiago E-Prix, Round 4 of the 2017-2018 ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

After a race win and both cars in the points in Marrakesh, the team is now leading both Teams’ and Drivers’ Championships, a first ever for any Indian motorsport team. We’ve been working hard in between the races to be able to deliver our very best fight for more race wins, podiums and points, as always eyes on the prize!

A reasonably wide and quick 2.971km street circuit in the heart of the city, the 2018 Antofagasta Minerals Santiago E-Prix will take place on the 3rd of February. This includes two practice sessions, qualifying and the race all on one day. A completely new track presents an unknown variable until the drivers experience it in shakedown, the team have been working hard on simulations using all available data to be as ready as they can for the race.

Marrakesh saw Nick make a rare mistake in qualifying which led to an accident that left his car damaged. He fought his way back up the order to bring home some points. Being the experienced veteran and fighter that he is, Nick’s determination to get in the car and get back to the top is second to none.

A well-crafted, efficiently measured race and two stunning overtaking manoeuvres saw Felix take the race win in Marrakesh after starting 3rd on the grid, and thus take the lead in the championship. Undoubtedly, Felix is raring to go and take on the Santiago circuit in order to increase his gap to the competition.

“We are thrilled to be in Chile and look forward to
putting up a strong race. This destination is really
important to us at Mahindra as we have many
friends and customers in this lovely nation.”
– Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal and CEO

“Santiago is probably my highlight of the year as I’ve always wanted to go to Chile. It’s also one of those races that are in the middle of downtown so it’s obviously very special! I feel I’m in a good rhythm with everything so I’m just going to continue in the same way. The pitstops are going to be the big thing with the time limit removed, but I think we’ll be in good shape. Overall I’ll just try to have fun and enjoy Santiago!”

“I have never been to Chile so I am excited to go there. The circuit
looks interesting with some unusual corners. The fact that we
expect temperatures around 30oC will challenge all teams with
regard to battery temperature and energy management.”
