Pons Racing is proud to announce the agreement reached with Alex Fontana for the upcoming round of the World Series Renault at Monte-Carlo. As the Formula Renault 3.5 championship and Formula 1 will run jointly, and Roberto Merhi was confirmed as a regular for Manor Formula 1, the Spaniard won’t be able to compete in both championships. So Pons Racing decided to sign 22-year-old Fontana. The Swissman, born on the 5th of August, 1992, in Lugano, has been driving in the GP3 Series for the last three years and is the 2011 Formula 3 Open Champion. He will line-up alongside Patrick Philo Paz Armand. Roberto will join the team for the Spa-Francorchamps race on May 30th-31st.

Emilio e Villota, Team Manager

“First of all, I’m delighted that Roberto was confirmed in Formula 1. As Pons Racing, our main goal is driver development and seeing Merhi rise to the occasion in F.1 makes us proud. The conjunction of the two series provided us the chance to meet with Alex Fontana. He impressed us in preseason testing and we have been in contact with him throughout the winter. I’m sure he will merge with the team straight away and will take the best out of the chance to run in an excellent environment like the Monte-Carlo Grand Prix”.
